How do I crop a Lottie animation?
Drop your .json or .lottie file into the cropper above, drag the crop box over the area you want to keep, and export. You can also lock the box to a ratio like 1:1 or 9:16, or type exact pixel values for X, Y, width and height. Nothing is installed and no account is required.
Does cropping reduce the quality of the animation?
No. Cropping doesn't re-render or re-encode anything: your existing layers are wrapped in a precomposition, offset by the crop origin, and the composition is resized to the crop. The animation stays vector, so it's exactly as sharp at any size as the original was. Quality is only ever affected by the format you export to afterwards, such as GIF.
Can I crop a Lottie to Instagram, TikTok or YouTube sizes?
Yes. The ratio presets cover 1:1 for square posts, 4:5 for Instagram portrait, 9:16 for Reels, TikTok and Shorts, and 16:9 for YouTube and presentations. Picking a ratio fits the largest box of that shape inside your animation and locks it while you drag.
Can I crop and convert to GIF or MP4 in one step?
Yes. The export panel sits next to the crop box, so a single download gives you the cropped animation as a GIF, MP4, WebM, PNG, JPG, SVG, Lottie JSON or dotLottie. There's no need to crop, download, and then re-upload to a converter.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. Parsing, cropping, previewing, and encoding all happen locally in your browser using your own machine's resources. Your animation never leaves your device, which also means you can use the cropper on unreleased or client work.
Does it work with .lottie files?
Yes. dotLottie archives are unpacked in the browser, including any images bundled inside them, and you can export back to .lottie or to any other format after cropping.
What happens to layers that fall outside the crop?
They're still in the file, just outside the visible composition — cropping changes what's shown, not what exists. That means the file size doesn't drop just because the canvas got smaller. If size is what you're after, run the result through the Lottie optimizer as well.
Do I need an account, and is there a watermark?
No account, and no watermark. Cropping and every export format are free. A free account only comes into it if you want to open the file in the full editor or keep it saved across devices.
